The 2030 Organic Strategy is a comprehensive national plan by the German Federal Government aimed at increasing organic farming to cover 30 percent of agricultural land by the year 2030. This ambitious goal is driven by the environmental, economic, and social benefits of organic farming, including biodiversity conservation, water resource protection, soil fertility preservation, greenhouse gas reduction, and the creation of new business opportunities along the entire organic food value chain. The strategy focuses on six action areas covering input markets, production, processing and trade, diet and society, research and knowledge transfer, and a coherent legal and support framework. Central to the strategy are 30 measures grouped into six strategic action areas covering input markets, organic production improvements, processing and trade enhancement, diet and societal engagement, research and knowledge transfer, and establishing a coherent legal and support framework. These measures include supporting organic plant and animal breeding, strengthening organic value chains and SMEs, expanding organic food in public catering, boosting research and data infrastructure, and aligning policies with sustainability goals. Together, these efforts aim to stimulate market growth, enhance sustainability, and enable a resilient transition to organic agriculture that benefits farms, consumers, and the environment alike.
