This Law establishes the Urban Reforestation Programme in the municipalities of Cuiabá and Várzea Grande, with the primary objective of promoting the recovery and expansion of green areas in urban areas. The law seeks to improve residents’ quality of life, conserve biodiversity, and mitigate environmental impacts by restoring degraded areas —particularly riparian forests, springs, parks, and public squares— and by encouraging tree planting adapted to local environmental conditions. It designates the State Secretariat for the Environment as the coordinating body and promotes collaboration among municipalities, public and private institutions, NGOs, and civil society to ensure the program's effectiveness. The law also outlines key strategies to achieve its environmental goals, including the creation of municipal nurseries for native species, community participation through planting campaigns and environmental‑education initiatives, and the establishment of fiscal incentives for private‑sector contributions. It also encourages partnerships with universities and research centers to support scientific studies on urban reforestation.
