This Order sets maximum limits for certain contaminants in food of animal origin intended for export from Greenland, while excluding businesses producing only animal foods for the Greenlandic domestic market and businesses producing non-animal foods. It prohibits the marketing or use as raw materials or ingredients of listed foods that exceed the maximum contaminant levels in Annex 1, and also prohibits mixing compliant foods with foods exceeding those limits. The Order covers metals and other elements such as lead, cadmium, mercury and inorganic tin; persistent organic pollutants such as dioxins, dioxin-like and non-dioxin-like PCBs and PFAS; and process contaminants such as polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, 3-MCPD and glycidyl fatty acid esters. It also sets rules for applying limits to dried, diluted, processed and compound foods, requires businesses to justify concentration, dilution or processing factors during official controls, prohibits deliberate chemical detoxification of contaminated foods, and regulates sorting or other physical treatment intended to reduce contaminant levels. Where action levels for dioxins and PCBs are exceeded, the food business must cooperate with the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration to identify and reduce or remove the source of contamination. The Order provides for fines and corporate criminal liability.
