This Act establishes Denmark’s legal framework for implementing the EU INSPIRE Directive on spatial information infrastructure. It requires public authorities to create and maintain metadata for designated geospatial datasets and services, ensure interoperability and harmonisation of geographic information, and connect relevant datasets and services to Denmark’s INSPIRE geoportal. The Act provides public access to geospatial data through online search, viewing, download, transformation, and network services, regulates data sharing among public authorities, EU institutions, and international bodies, and establishes coordination, monitoring, and reporting mechanisms to support the development and maintenance of a national infrastructure for spatial information. The Act entered into force on 15 May 2009 and applies to electronic geospatial data relating to Denmark and adjacent marine areas.
