Its tasks include promoting an economically efficient climate transition, coordinating work on Sweden’s environmental objectives, issuing regulations and permits, supervising environmental compliance, managing contaminated sites, coordinating environmental monitoring and information, promoting waste prevention and the circular economy, protecting biodiversity and valuable natural areas, and dealing with hunting, wildlife management and outdoor recreation. It is also responsible for environmental research funding, EU and international reporting, official environmental statistics, and regular assessments of climate and environmental policy. The Ordinance further regulates cooperation with other authorities, and the Agency’s internal bodies and governance.
