Victoria’s Climate Change Strategy 2026–30.

Victoria’s Climate Change Strategy 2026–30 sets out the Victorian Government’s framework for reducing greenhouse gas emissions, achieving a legislated net zero target by 2045 and strengthening climate resilience. The Strategy identifies climate action as a driver of economic growth, investment and social wellbeing, highlighting progress already made through emissions reductions, renewable energy deployment and energy efficiency measures. It establishes priorities focused on reducing living costs, supporting workers, building future-ready infrastructure and protecting communities from climate impacts. The Strategy outlines a broad package of measures to accelerate the transition to a low-emissions economy. These include expanding renewable electricity generation, energy storage and offshore wind capacity; promoting household electrification and rooftop solar; improving energy efficiency in homes and businesses; encouraging sustainable transport and zero-emission vehicles; and supporting industrial decarbonisation, circular economy initiatives and climate-smart agriculture. Particular emphasis is placed on employment creation, workforce development, investment attraction and regional economic opportunities associated with the renewable energy transition. The document also addresses adaptation and resilience by strengthening emergency management, health system preparedness, biodiversity conservation, water security and climate-resilient planning. It recognises the role of Traditional Owners and supports self-determination through partnerships, climate action grants and initiatives that integrate traditional knowledge into climate responses. Future implementation will be guided by new Adaptation Action Plans for 2027–31, continued emissions reduction targets and ongoing reporting under the Climate Action Act 2017, with priorities including ecosystem restoration, disaster preparedness and protection of communities most vulnerable to climate change impacts.
