These Regulations amend the Environmental Impact Assessment Regulations, 2012 (2012/R-27). This amendment identifies certain development activities that may proceed without preparing a full Environmental Impact Assessment, provided the project proponent gives the Ministry of Environment and Energy, a written undertaking that appropriate environmental mitigation measures will be implemented. These activities include maintenance dredging/removal of deposited material within an existing harbour or entrance channel, removal of trees and palms from land allocated for housing, removal of trees obstructing roads in housing areas, and drilling boreholes on land for water extraction. It also provides temporary EIA exemptions for development on newly reclaimed land, with certain exceptions mentioned therein.
