Environment Management (Plastics) Regulations, 2015.

These Regulations, comprising 7 sections, aim to prohibit the importation, manufacture, trade, and commercial distribution of certain plastics, plastic bags, and plastic sheets made of plastic film with a wall thickness of less than sixty micrometres for use within Malawi. Section 4 excludes from the prohibition certain plastic-film articles, including bread wrapping, packaging for fresh meat, fish and poultry, specified food and product packaging, seedling tubes, dry-cleaning bags, waste bags, and any other plastic bags designated exempt by the Minister. Recyclable plastic bags must be clearly marked as “recycled,” “reusable,” or with a symbol indicating recyclability or reusability. Importing, manufacturing, trading, or commercially distributing plastic-film products with a wall thickness of less than 60 micrometres is an offence.
