This Act establishes the legal framework for the planning, establishment, protection, financing, maintenance and marking of the public footpath and hiking trail network in the Canton of Schwyz, implementing the Federal Act on Footpaths and Hiking Trails. It defines the categories of footpaths and hiking trails, regulates their inclusion in cantonal and municipal path plans, and requires coordination with spatial planning, building, road and related legislation. The Act allocates responsibilities between cantonal and municipal authorities, provides mechanisms for financing and task delegation, and establishes procedures for securing public access, including the acquisition of rights and expropriation where necessary. It further sets out rules on maintenance, route replacement, uniform marking, institutional responsibilities and transitional measures for the implementation of the trail network.
