Decree No. 5.866 creating the Committee for Integrated Environmental Action.

This Decree creates the Integrated Environmental Actions Committee of the State of Acre with the principal objective of strengthening coordination among governmental bodies responsible for environmental management, land regularisation, public security, infrastructure and planning. The Decree was adopted in response to increasing pressures on protected areas arising from land invasions, irregular occupation and illegal deforestation. It seeks to enhance the State’s capacity to protect conservation units, safeguard environmental assets, support sustainable forest-based economic activities, and improve the effectiveness of public policies aimed at combating illegal deforestation and related environmental offences. The Decree assigns the Committee responsibility for integrating command-and-control measures, land-tenure regularisation initiatives and sustainable development policies. Its key functions include establishing targets for reducing illegal deforestation and burning, promoting the recovery of degraded areas, supporting sustainable production chains, conducting integrated monitoring and enforcement operations, overseeing environmentally relevant infrastructure projects, and ensuring the allocation of resources for priority actions. The Committee operates through a results-based management approach, requiring the preparation, implementation and continuous evaluation of an Integrated Action Plan in order to improve coordination, accelerate decision-making and achieve measurable environmental outcomes across the State of Acre.
