Mongolia`s National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan 2026-2030.

Mongolia’s National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan 2026–2030 establishes national priorities for biodiversity conservation, ecosystem restoration and sustainable use of biological resources. Aligned with the Kunming–Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF), it provides a cross-sectoral framework for integrating biodiversity into environmental, agricultural, economic and social policies to fulfil Mongolia’s obligations under the Convention on Biological Diversity. The Strategy defines 20 national targets corresponding to GBF targets, organized into three strategic areas: reducing threats to biodiversity; meeting people’s needs through sustainable use and benefit-sharing; and tools and solutions for implementation and mainstreaming. It emphasizes cross-sectoral mainstreaming, stakeholder consultations, gender-responsive approaches, traditional knowledge and improved biodiversity data. The Action Plan sets out 106 actions with corresponding indicators. Key measures include ecosystem Red List assessments; restoration of at least 30% of degraded areas; conservation of 30% of national territory through protected areas and OECMs; species conservation and ecological connectivity; genetic resources and benefit-sharing; invasive alien species management; pollution reduction; nature-based solutions; sustainable agriculture and forestry; One Health integration; biodiversity financing; scientific cooperation; and public awareness.
