This Plan establishes measures, objectives and tasks for the reduction of air pollutant emissions and the improvement of ambient air quality. It provides for emission reduction actions up to 2030 and addresses the main sources of air pollution in the energy, industry, transport, agriculture and household sectors. The Plan is intended to support the implementation of national, European Union and international commitments concerning air pollution reduction. The first objective of the Plan is to reduce emissions of sulphur dioxide, nitrogen oxides, ammonia, fine particulate matter and non-methane volatile organic compounds, with measures directed at the principal emitting sectors and sources. The second objective is to limit pollution from heavy metals and persistent organic pollutants through measures addressing the main sources of such emissions. The third objective concerns the development of air pollution accounting, forecasting and monitoring systems, including the preparation of emission inventories and projections and the dissemination of information on emissions and air quality. The Plan also provides for the assessment of the effects of air pollution on human health and ecosystems and for the publication of related information. The Plan assigns responsibilities for implementation and coordination to the competent authorities and sets out arrangements for financing, monitoring, reporting and review. It provides for periodic review of the measures contained in the Plan and for the evaluation of progress on the basis of national emission inventories and projections.
