Resolution No. 44/26 approving, for ratification by the Republic of Angola, of the Protocol amending the Marrakesh Agreement establishing the World Trade Organisation with regard to the Agreement on Fisheries Subsidies.

This Resolution approves the ratification of the Protocol amending the Marrakech Agreement that creates the World Trade Organization – Agreement on Fishing Subsidies, adopted in Geneva (Switzerland) on 17 June 2022. The principal objective of the Agreement is to strengthen the international framework governing fisheries subsidies by prohibiting forms of public support that contribute to illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing, overfishing and the depletion of marine fish stocks. The Agreement seeks to promote the sustainable use of marine living resources, improve fisheries governance, and ensure that subsidy policies are consistent with the long-term conservation and management of fisheries resources. It also recognises the need for special and differential treatment for developing and least developed countries within the implementation of these disciplines.
