Queensland Biosecurity Strategy: Our Next Five Years 2018–2023.

The Queensland Biosecurity Strategy: Our Next Five Years 2018–2023 establishes a shared approach to protecting Queensland’s ecosystems, primary industries, communities and market access from pests, diseases and weeds. Its goals include preventing exotic pests and diseases from entering, spreading or becoming established; managing significant existing threats; preparing for new incursions; protecting ecosystems; and maintaining Queensland’s reputation for safe, high-quality trade. The Strategy is organised around six themes: collaborative governance and leadership; participation by all Queenslanders; empowering people to act; innovation; investment; and better intelligence systems. It promotes shared responsibility among government, industry and communities, clearer roles and accountability, stronger skills and capacity, improved surveillance and preparedness, and wider use of technology and data. Investment is to be guided by risk and value, with opportunities for co-investment, efficiency and new funding sources. Better integration of biosecurity information, predictive technologies, data modelling and intelligence is intended to improve risk assessment, surveillance planning and evidence-based decision-making. I\ be periodically refreshed in response to increasing knowledge and changing circumstances.
