These Rules, made under section 16 of the Agricultural Land Water Management Act, 2018 (Act No. 5 of 2018), provide for regulating the installation and use of wells and tube wells for agricultural groundwater abstraction through a licensing system. The Rules establish the Upazila Irrigation Committee as the authority responsible for: examination of applications for licences, verification of information relating to proposed well sites, carrying out inspections, providing recommendations concerning groundwater abstraction. The Rules concern the following matters: application for installation of a new well; minimum distances between groundwater wells; issuance of licences; provisions concerning existing wells.
