Animal Protection Act (R.S.Y. 2002, c. 6).

This Act concerns the protection of animals from distress. In this Act, “animal” includes mammals, birds and fish but not wildlife. The Act sets the powers and responsibilities of peace officers in the alleviation and management of animal distress. For the purposes of this Act, peace officers include: members of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, enforcement officers of a municipality who has been sworn as a peace officer pursuant to the Municipal Act and who is carrying out the duties of that office in the municipality by whom the peace officer is employed pursuant to that Act or any special officer appointed for the purposes of this Act (sect. 1). Section 2 deals with the powers of peace officers, section 4 with inspection of premises and section 5 with the relieving of distress animals. Section 8 sets the conditions in which animals may be destroyed.
