Submerged Lands Act (P.L. 1-023).

This Act concerns the management of submerged lands of the Northern Marianna Islands, i.e. lands below the ordinary high water mark extending from the shoreline or cliffline off the islands out to the ocean to a distance of two hundred nautical miles. The purpose of the Act is to provide for the exploration, development and extraction of mineral deposits in submerged lands. It requires the Department of Natural Resources to establish procedures for the granting of exploration licences, development leases and permits for the extraction of petroleum deposits and other mineral deposits.
