This Act makes provision for measures to control the manufacture and use of and trade in pesticides in Jamaica and for this purpose establishes a Pesticides Control Authority as a body corporate. The functions of the Authority shall be, among other things: (a) to register pesticides and premises in which a restricted pesticide may be sold; (b) to license persons to import or manufacture registered pesticides and pest control operators; (c) to authorize persons to sell restricted pesticides; (d) to deal with all aspects of the importation, manufacture, packaging, preparation for sale, sale, disposal and use of pesticides and to advise the Minister on all matters in relation thereto. The Act requires the registration of pesticides and a licence to manufacture or import a registered pesticide. The Act also prescribes rules that apply to the sale and use of restricted pesticides listed in the Third Schedule to this Act and prohibits the use of pesticides listed in the Second Schedule to this Act.
