The purpose of this Act is to outline basic principles and direction of forest policies, forestry objectives and the role of foresters in order to achieve sustainable forest management. The state and local governments shall be responsible for establishing comprehensive enforcement measures related to forest conservation and forest land use such as promotion of forest public benefit, advancement of information technology in forestry, conservation and use of genetic resources of trees, improvement of mountain villages, etc. The Act provides for the establishment and implementation of a National Forest Plan by the Chief of Korea Forest Service. The Plan shall include matters related to forest resource establishment and cultivation, forest conservation and protection, forest disaster prevention and restoration, etc.
