WECAFC is committed to strengthening regional cooperation and capacity-building efforts to improve the collection, analysis, and reporting of fisheries data. Recognizing the need for improved evidence based decision making, WECAFC established the Regional Fisheries Data and Statistics Working Group (FDS WG) to enhance the collection, accuracy, and sharing of fisheries data and statistics, including socio-economic data. The Commission emphasizes the importance of harmonization and standardization at national and regional levels to support informed decision-making. WECAFC endorses the Interim Data Collection Reference Framework (DCRF) as a foundation for collecting and collating fisheries data to inform regional policies. The Commission encourages its members to provide national data and statistics to the WECAFC, CRFM, OSPESCA Regional Data Base and participate in the FDS WG to refine data collection practices.
