In 2005, Pacific Leaders endorsed the Pacific Islands Framework for Action on Climate Change (PIFACC) for 2006 to 2015, with a vision of making Pacific island communities, their livelihoods, and the environment resilient to climate change risks and impacts. The second edition of the Framework continues this vision and goal, while also incorporating advancements in climate change understanding, updates in global and regional climate change strategies, and lessons learned from the implementation of climate change programs since the original Framework was introduced. This Framework seeks to bolster the resilience of Pacific island communities against climate change by enhancing their capacity in key areas: practical adaptation measures, governance, climate change understanding, education and awareness, greenhouse gas reduction, and fostering partnerships. Its purpose is to strengthen regional climate action through awareness-raising, guiding the design and implementation of climate initiatives, supporting sustainable policy development, and enabling progress measurement. Serving as a resource for stakeholders at all levels, the Framework complements existing policies while helping Pacific Island Countries and Territories secure sustainable resources to tackle climate challenges. Ultimately, it equips Pacific islanders with the tools and knowledge needed to effectively confront and adapt to the impacts of climate change.
