Government of Canada Adaptation Action Plan.

The Canada’s National Adaptation Strategy: Building Resilient Communities and a Strong Economy (NAS) provides a roadmap for whole-of-society action on adaptation that will help prepare communities for the impacts of climate change. This Government of Canada Adaptation Action Plan (GOCAAP) is the policy and program framework that shows how the Government of Canada contributes to achieving the goals, objectives, and targets laid out in the NAS. The government emphasizes the importance of collaboration with indigenous communities and stakeholders to ensure that adaptation strategies are inclusive and effective. Implementation of the plan involves targeted measures across five key systems: disaster resilience, health and well-being, nature and biodiversity, infrastructure, and economy and workers. Key actions inclue: Improve early warning systems for floods, wildfires, and extreme weather, ensuring timely information reaches vulnerable populations; Allocate funding to enhance flood hazard mapping and disaster preparedness in high-risk areas; Develop emergency response strategies tailored to community needs, particularly in rural and Indigenous regions; Integrate climate risk assessments into planning processes at all levels of government; Develop climate-resilient healthcare facilities that can withstand extreme weather events; Restore and protect ecosystems, including wetlands, forests, and grasslands, to maintain biodiversity and carbon storage; Expand protected areas and establish nature-based solutions, such as green infrastructure, to mitigate flooding and erosion; Promote sustainable land and water management practices to support climate-resilient agriculture and fisheries; Partner with Indigenous communities to incorporate traditional ecological knowledge into conservation efforts; Implement national strategies to combat invasive species and support the recovery of endangered species; Support rural and Indigenous communities in building resilient infrastructure tailored to their specific needs; Develop strategies to secure food, energy, and industrial supply chains against climate disruptions; Invest in sectors like agriculture, fisheries, and tourism to help them adapt to climate-related challenges; Expand training programs and funding for green jobs in renewable energy, sustainable construction, and ecosystem restoration; etc.
