Federal Action Plan on Nature-based Solutions for Climate and Biodiversity.

The German government’s Action Program on Nature-based Solutions for Climate and Biodiversity aims to significantly improve the state of ecosystems on land and at sea, enhancing their resilience and contribution to climate protection. This includes emission reduction, climate adaptation, and negative emissions. Sustainable agriculture and forestry will be promoted to support biodiversity, while renewable energy expansion will be coordinated with conservation efforts. The program emphasizes financial incentives, legal adjustments, education, research, and monitoring to encourage voluntary participation. Aligned with EU regulations, Program sets ambitious CO₂ reduction targets, aiming for a net-negative emissions balance of minus 25 million tons CO₂ equivalent per year by 2030, increasing to minus 40 million tons by 2045, ensuring long-term ecosystem stability and climate protection. The program focuses on key areas, including protecting and restoring peatlands, maintaining natural water cycles with healthy rivers and lakes, and preserving marine and coastal ecosystems. It also emphasizes wildlife conservation, sustainable forest management, and enhancing soil carbon storage. Efforts extend to integrating climate protection into urban and transport areas, improving data collection, monitoring, and reporting, and promoting research and capacity building. Additionally, the program strengthens EU and international cooperation to ensure effective climate action.
