The Inter-American Tropical Tuna Commission adopted Resolution C-24-01 to regulate tropical tuna fisheries in the Eastern Pacific Ocean during 2025–2026, aiming to prevent overfishing of yellowfin, bigeye, and skipjack tuna. The measures impose 72-day annual purse-seine closures, with additional days required for vessels that exceed specified bigeye catch limits. They also restrict active Fish Aggregating Devices (FADs), mandate non-entangling and biodegradable designs, and require extensive reporting of FAD and vessel monitoring data. Longline fleets are subject to national bigeye catch limits, with provisions for limited transfers among certain CPCs. The resolution includes scientific monitoring, evaluation of stock health, and potential future adjustments to ensure sustainable management of tropical tuna resources in the region.
