The Tasmanian Trade Strategy 2019–2025 establishes a policy framework for the Tasmanian Government to work with business and partners to grow trade domestically and internationally and to address export growth barriers, improve competitiveness, build export capability, and strengthen international relationships. It sets an overarching long-term export aspiration of growing Tasmania’s export trade by 2050. The Strategy sets four priority areas for government action—building trade in key sectors, showcasing Tasmania in priority markets, supporting trade logistics and market access, and building export capabilities of Tasmanian businesses—and outlines initiatives to deliver these priorities, including sector-specific support and promotion, in‑market presence, coordinated missions and delegations, trade information tools, market-access and logistics advisory functions, and capability-building measures for businesses at different stages of trade growth. It identifies priority markets for broad strategic engagement through to 2025 and indicates that each key sector will be supported by its own annual action plan developed in partnership with industry. Among the key sectors the Strategy identifies: food and agribusiness sector focusing on dairy production, red meat, aquaculture and wild fisheries, fruit and vegetables, wine, spirits beer and honey. Another trade priority identified in the Strategy is the Resources and energy sector, including mining, forest products and energy.
