Law No. 4.749 establishing the Integrated Environment and Climate Change System (SIMAMC) and the Integrated Centre for Intelligence, Geoprocessing and Environmental Monitoring (CIGMA).

This Law establishes the Integrated Environment and Climate Change System (SIMAMC) and the Integrated Centre for Environmental Intelligence, Geoprocessing and Monitoring (CIGMA) in the State of Acre. Its main objective is to strengthen environmental and climate governance by integrating the policies, actions, resources and technical capacities of several state institutions responsible for environmental management, agriculture, indigenous affairs, land administration, climate change, and civil defense. The law seeks to improve coordination among these bodies through a unified management structure, enabling more efficient implementation of environmental and climate-related policies, optimizing the use of human and material resources, and promoting a systemic approach to addressing environmental challenges and climate change. The law also creates CIGMA as the State’s central technical and operational body for environmental intelligence, geospatial data management and environmental monitoring. CIGMA is tasked with integrating and maintaining environmental databases, processing satellite imagery, monitoring deforestation, wildfires, land use changes and hydrometeorological events, and generating information to support public decision-making. In addition, it promotes the use of geospatial technologies, territorial intelligence and interoperable data platforms to support environmental protection, climate adaptation, land-use planning, natural resource management and the evaluation of public policies. Through these measures, the law aims to enhance environmental monitoring, strengthen responses to extreme climate events, and improve the overall effectiveness of environmental and climate governance in Acre
