Climate Strategy Liechtenstein 2050.

This Strategy establishes the Principality of Liechtenstein’s long-term climate policy framework in accordance with Article 4(19) of the Paris Agreement, setting targets to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 55 percent by 2030 compared with 1990 levels and to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. It outlines measures across key sectors including energy, buildings, transport, agriculture, industry, waste management and land use, with emphasis on domestic emission reductions and limited use of international credits and negative emission technologies. The Strategy promotes renewable energy deployment, energy efficiency, the phase-out of fossil-fuel heating systems, electrification of transport, and the expansion of charging infrastructure. In the agricultural sector, it provides for measures relating to nutrient management, livestock production and emission reduction. It also includes actions to restore peatlands, conserve biodiversity, support circular economy approaches, improve climate-oriented public procurement, and encourage climate-aligned financial investments. The Strategy establishes implementation, monitoring and reporting mechanisms, assigns responsibilities to relevant authorities, and provides for periodic review and updating in line with national and international climate commitments.
