Regulation on Single-use Plastic Reduction (No. 2026/R-51).

These Regulations are issued under section 31 of the Waste Management Act (No.24/2022). The primary objective of the regulation is to phase out and eliminate single-use plastics that cause environmental degradation, supporting the national goal to phase out single-use plastics by 2030. The government is mandated to formulate, publish, and implement a phase-out plan and public awareness programs. These programs focus on promoting eco-friendly alternatives, educating the public on proper disposal and recycling, and managing transitions for imported and locally distributed plastic products. The regulation outlines specific enforcement measures and measurement standards to identify prohibited single-use plastic items. Environmental regulatory authorities are empowered to inspect imported goods, enforce market restrictions, issue disposal notices, and oversee the destruction of non-compliant plastic items, while keeping proper yearly records of seized and destroyed goods.
