The search screen consists of a number of fields, namely Country,
Region, UNCLOS status, FAO Compliance Agreement - 1993, UN
Fish Stocks Agreement - 1995, and Delimitation of fishery zones
which is divided into the following sub-fields: Territorial sea, Fishing
Zone, Exclusive Economic Zone. You may formulate queries according
to your needs by specifying searching criteria as shown in the examples below.
Filling fields
Within a field you can enter one or more terms separated by a
semicolon (;). If you know what to enter in the field, just type it in. the
fields Country/Territory, Geographical area, Territorial sea,
Fishing zone and Exclusive Economic Zone may be filled in by
using the List button. If you press the List button next to an
empty field, the system will display a list in alphabetical order starting with
the first 20 terms. If, however, you enter the initial letter/s of a term in
the field, the system will display the list from the given letter/s (or the
next nearest one), as shown in Example 1. From the List you can select a
number of terms from the displayed list as follows:
· to select one term
click on the term you need and then click on the Select button;
· click on any additional
term you need from the list while pressing the CTRL key and then click on the Select
button.
AND/OR operators between terms in a field
Within the Country/Territory, Geographical area, Territorial
sea, Fishing zone and Exclusive Economic Zone you combine
more than one term by using the logical operators AND/OR in the
combo box positioned next to the field. In the search screen the OR
operator is selected by default and will search every document related to any
of the specified elements. If you select the AND operator, the system
will search only those documents relevant to all of the selected terms (see
Example 2).
If you specify in the field COUNTRY/TERRITORY:
the system will interpret the contents as logical OR of the terms Poland, Germany, Sweden, providing documents from the three specified countries.
Some of the fields are accompanied by the button LIST. The
button can be used in the case when the user wants to see the index by given
field. If you press the button LIST with empty field the system will display an
index starting with the first 20 positions. If however you enter a stem to the
field, the system will start displaying the index from the given stem (or the
next nearest one).
One has entered to the Descriptor field the stem
"afri":
and then pressed the box List . In response the system provides a list attached to the field Region as below:
Geographical area |
The system provides a list starting with the closest term, next to the stem (in our example - AFRICA). Note that the received table is scrollable, so that in the window for three terms we can scroll the table with 20 terms.
It is possible to select a term from the list by clicking on a
given term. If we want to use more then one term in our query we can
"add" another term by pressing the key CTRL and clicking with the
mouse on another term. Having selected some terms we use the button Select . In response the system returns to the
original screen with the selected terms in the field.
Note: After returning back to the field with the
selected terms you should check if the stem which was used to start browsing
the dictionary is useful for further searching. If not, we should remove it
from the field.
PgDn: - to take the next 20 terms from the
dictionary
PgUp: - to go back to the previous 20 terms from
the dictionary
