Titles of the 16 sections of this Act include: Sovereignty over, and limits of, territorial waters (3); Use of territorial waters by foreign ships (4); (Declaration of) Contigous Zone of India (5); (Declaration of) Continental Shelf (6); (Declaration of) Exclusive Economic Zone (7); Historic waters (8); Maritime boundaries between India and the States having coasts opposite or adjacent to those of India (9); Power to make rules (15). The Government may, by notification in the Official Gazette, declare any area of the Continental Shelf or the EEZ to be a designated area for the regulation of entry and passage of foreign ships. Subsection 7(5) on exploitation of resources in the EEZ does not apply to fishing by citizens of India.
