There is hereby established the legislative framework concerning navigation in Italian waters, both inland and maritime. To clearly define the application scope as regards navigation in maritime waters, article 2 provides for the delimitation of the territorial sea which shall be subjected to national sovereignty. The Code is composed of three Parts (however, Part II has been repealed). Part I defines the institutions which shall be in charge of implementing the Code and sets out their respective competences and duties in matters relating to navigation (arts. 15-27). Further, it specifies the maritime areas and territories which fall within the State sovereignty (arts. 28-61) and sets out rules on concession procedures. Moreover, there are established rules dealing with ownership of vessels (arts. 232-375) and duties and obligations of related to navigation (arts. 376-577). Part III lays down criminal and disciplinary provisions.
