This Act prohibits the deposit of garbage in public places, drains and sewage. This Act recognizes the power of the local authority to provide various places or types of receptacles for the deposit of non-biodegradable, biodegradable and biomedical garbage or waste. The State Government shall undertake studies to determine the composition of non-biodegradable and biodegradable garbage, encourage local authorities to implement policies to recycle waste materials and promote energy conservation, conduct and support research on waste management and recycling, etc. The Act further provides for rule making powers of the State Government, and for offences and penalties.
