Cattle Tuberculosis Ordinance.

The present Ordinance establishes measures to prevent the introduction and spread of bovine tuberculosis (Tbc) in cattle and associated species, applying to cattle and goats kept together, and maintaining Austria’s officially Tbc-free status. It defines key terms and diagnostic methods, including tuberculin testing, laboratory confirmation, and identification of suspected animals and herds, and requires immediate notification of suspected cases based on clinical signs, test results, or epidemiological links. The regulation provides a detailed surveillance framework, including routine testing, targeted investigations in designated risk areas, and systematic examination of carcasses and samples. It sets out strict control measures for suspected or infected herds, including movement restrictions, testing of all animals, diagnostic slaughter, and, where infection is confirmed, culling and sanitary measures accompanied by epidemiological tracing of contact holdings. The regulation also governs procedures for lifting restrictions and restoring disease-free status following negative testing and disinfection, and establishes obligations for animal owners to cooperate with veterinary authorities.
