This Regulation provides for transitional measures for certain animal by-products not intended for human consumption and used for: a) the leather obtained from animals that were treated with prohibited substances; b) rendered fats derived from Category 1 materials; c) intestines of ruminants (with or without content); d) bones and bone products containing vertebral column and skull and horns of cattle removed from the head using a method that leaves intact the cranial cavity. Placing on the market or export of animal by-products is done in a way that does not pose a risk to human and animal health and the environment. By-products are subject to import certification requirements, in accordance with special regulations. The competent authority shall promptly take appropriate measures in case of non-compliance with the provisions of this Regulation, also immediately informing the European Commission.
