This Act provides aims to conserve water supplies by reducing water consumption; to provide information for purchasers of water-use and water-saving products; and to promote the adoption of efficient and effective water-use and water-saving technologies. It is Parliament’s intention that this Act form a part of a cooperative scheme between the Commonwealth and the States and territories to provide for national water efficiency labelling and standards (WELS). The Act sets out requirements for WELS products and standards and defines functions of the WELS Regulator. The Act further provides for: registration of WELS products; offences relating to the supply of WELS products; WELS inspectors; etc.
