This publication bring the Montenegro National Strategy for antibiotic resistance control for the period from 2017 to 2021. It is the continuation of the National Strategy for the Control of Bacterial Resistance to Antibiotics for the period 2012-2016, which is in accordance with the Master Plan for the Development of Healthcare of Montenegro for the period 2015-2020 and the National plan for the rational consumption of medicines that emerged from the Master Plan, as well as from World Health Organization (WHO) Action Plan for Antibiotic Resistance to Europe. Basic contents of this Policy are as follows: Introduction and overview of the present situation in Montenegro as regards the resistance of bacteria to antibiotics (Chapters 1 and 2); Principal objectives (3); Plan and areas of activity (Chapter 4 with subsections: antibiotic resistance monitoring of bacteria; monitoring the resistance of bacteria to antibiotics in human medicine; monitoring the resistance of bacteria to antibiotics in veterinary medicine; monitoring over the antibiotic consumption; fostering good clinical practice in the use of antibiotics; elaboration of guidelines for the rational use of antibiotics; determination of indicators of rational prescribing of antibiotics; antibiotics sales control; education on the rational use of antibiotics; education of health workers; improvement of microbiological diagnostics; education of the general population on the harmfulness of excessive use of antibiotics; control of hospital infections and control of the spread of resistant strains; improving information technology in the field of bacterial resistance monitoring; encouraging scientific research in the field of resistance of bacteria to antibiotics; international cooperation); Financial assets necessary for implementation of national strategies) (5); public authorities and institutions included in implementation of national strategies (6); professional profiles of institutional representatives and delegated professionals (7).
