National Program for integrated plant protection for the period of 2018-2027 is a sectoral long-term strategic planning document that sets the objective, specific tasks and priority actions to be implemented to ensure proper management of harmful organisms and the application of an integrated protection system plants. The main objective of the Program is to optimize phytosanitary treatments by reducing the quantitative load of phytosanitary measures per unit of agricultural area, to provide consumers with quality and safe food products of plant origin and a healthy environment. The practical application of the measures and principles of integrated plant protection at the national level is based on the rational use of phytosanitary measures for the control of pests, diseases and weeds through the use of alternative plant protection methods, the introduction of modern cultivation technologies and good agricultural practice (GAP), safe and environmentally friendly environment. About 30 percent of the population is involved in the agricultural sector. For the purposes of developing the agrarian sector, the Government of the Republic of Moldova is promoting a policy to support agricultural producers, consolidating agricultural land, ensuring the adequacy and safety of food products of plant and animal origin, the development and diversification of production and processing infrastructure, rural development, adaptation of the agricultural sector to climate change. In order to ensure the competitiveness of domestic products in the domestic and foreign markets, annual measures are being taken to support and subsidize agricultural producers in the amount of about 500 million lei. Pests distributed on the territory of the Republic of Moldova, annually, depending on climatic conditions, can cause significant damage to crops, accounting for about 25-30% of the estimated crop. The Phytosanitary Monitoring and Crisis Management Service of the National Food Safety Agency needs to be restructured by strengthening technical equipment to optimize activities on phytosanitary monitoring of crops and pest species, confirmation of the economic threshold of harmfulness, publication of recommendations for struggle, promotion of the implementation of the integrated protection system, publication of booklets, phytosanitary cards for species of harmful organisms (denomination and characteristics of the harmful organism, host plant, symptoms and degree of harmfulness, measures for prevention and control), other information and educational materials for agricultural producers. Sustainable development of agriculture implies development compatible with the natural environment, in order to avoid a negative impact on future generations, which requires the interaction of four systems: economic, human, environmental and technological in the process of dynamic functioning. In order to reduce the risks to the health of the population in order to avoid adverse effects on the environment, to guarantee the safety of food products of plant origin, agricultural operators are obliged to comply with the requirements of national legislation, proper agricultural practices, including international practices in the management of phytosanitary resources in the import-use segment. The prospect of the region's development is based on promoting the extensive application of integrated plant protection, planning and taking measures on the effective management of harmful organisms, their distribution vectors, establishing criteria for integrated plant protection through scientific research.
