Law No. 8.197 on Environmentally Appropriate Solid Waste Disposal and other type of Waste as well as Environmental Services for the Protection of the Environmentally-Balanced Environment, Public Health and Wildlife Preservation.

This Law establishes the requirements for Cleaning, Collection, Removal, Treatment, Recycling, and Environmentally Appropriate Disposal of Solid Waste and other type of waste. It also provides for any Essential Environmental Services aimed at the protection of the ecologically balanced environment, public health and the fauna and flora preservation, in the defense of present and future generations, in accordance with the State Law No. 4.191 of 30 September 2003, and Federal Law No. 12.305 of 2 August 2010. The essential environmental services will be offered directly to the population through the public or private initiative, by means of concession, permission or authorization of companies with environmental license issued by competent environmental agency.
