National action plan for renewable energy sources until 2020.

This Croatian National action plan for renewable energy sources needs to determine the existing and planned policy for renewable energy sources as instruments, measures and mechanisms with which the objectives in question would be achieved by the year 2020. By becoming a full member of the European Union on 1 July 2013, the Republic of Croatia, together with other member states, and based on Directive 2009/28/EC on encouraging the use of energy from renewable sources, assumed the obligation to increase the use of energy from renewable sources, whereby in 2020 , the share of energy from renewable sources in gross direct consumption should have been at least 20 percent, observed at the level of the European Union. In order to achieve this basic goal, each member state is obliged to adopt a National Action Plan for renewable energy sources, in which the overall national goal for renewable energy sources is determined according to the prescribed methodology, as well as sectoral goals and trajectories in the production of electricity, energy for heating and cooling and energy in transport from renewable energy sources. This Policy further states the interlinkage between above mentioned energy sector obligations and climate change issues. The national Ministry of Environment and Nature Protection has a key role in the creation of air protection policy and mitigation of climate change, as well as in the preparation of draft laws and implementing regulations. The Department for Environmental Protection and Sustainable Development is part of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Sustainable Development, in which the Sector for Atmosphere, Sea and Soil is responsible for administrative and professional matters of air protection, climate change and protection of the ozone layer.
