This Decree creates the Brazilian Green Seal Programme, under the Ministry of Development, Industry, Commerce and Services. The Programme aims to develop national guidelines for the standardization and certification of products and services that are proven to meet pre-defined sustainability requirements. The Brazil Green Seal may be obtained for any products and services, as long as they meet the minimum socio-environmental sustainability requirements defined in Brazilian technical standards. The objectives of the Programme are: increase the quality and competitiveness of Brazilian products and services; stimulate the consumption of sustainable products, for a sustainable market in the country; strengthen the use of Environmental, Social and Governance criteria (ESG) and the circular economy; stimulate the growth of the green economy; contribute to sustainable development and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions; provide an accurate and verifiable information instrument that proves compliance with pre-defined sustainability requirements; and contribute to strengthening the sustainable public purchasing process in the country.
