The Great British Energy Act 2025 establishes a legal framework for the creation and operation of a publicly owned energy company named Great British Energy. The Act clarifies that although the company is Crown-owned, it does not enjoy Crown privileges or status, and its property is not considered Crown property. It must include in its articles of association a clear statement of its objectives, which are focused on clean energy production, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, improving energy efficiency, ensuring energy security, and preventing slavery and human trafficking in its operations and supply chains. Financial assistance may be provided to the company in various forms, including grants, loans, guarantees, and asset acquisitions. The Secretary of State is required to prepare and periodically update a strategic priorities statement for the company, which must be reflected in its strategic plans. These plans must be published and revised accordingly. The Secretary of State may issue directions to the company, following consultation, and must publish these directions.
