Act No. 25 on expropriation.

This Act authorizes the government (Landsstyret) to expropriate private property when required for the public interest, provided voluntary agreement is first attempted; all rights over the property cease unless otherwise decided. Compensation is determined by an independent committee including government, municipal, and affected-party representatives, guided by proportionality and after a site inspection with public notice. Decisions are by majority vote, and objections must be brought to Greenland’s High Court within four weeks. Legal challenges do not automatically suspend implementation. Compensation accrues standard interest and must be paid promptly and in creditor priority order. The expropriating party generally bears all procedural costs, including reasonable legal assistance for affected owners.
