Resolution C-25-07 Amends and Replaces Resolution C-24-06 on Fish-Aggregating Devices.

The Resolution provides that the Members and Cooperating Non-Members (CPCs) will continue collaborative scientific research with the IATTC to study key aspects of tuna fisheries, including fish-aggregating devices (FADs) depth effects, baited FAD impacts, tuna mortality rates, sustainable fishing limits, and area-based management measures. They will also examine observer coverage feasibility on smaller vessels and prohibit the use of tender vessels supporting FAD operations in the eastern Pacific Ocean (EPO). The IATTC Director will further research gear and techniques to reduce juvenile tuna and bycatch. Additionally, the Scientific Advisory Committee will advise on establishing a regional FAD register aligned with other RFMOs. CPCs are encouraged to initiate voluntary drifting FAD recovery programs, report associated data for scientific analysis, and maintain active buoy signals to support recovery efforts until 2028.
