National Water Resources Plan – Framework Plan.

This National Water Resources Plan (NWRP) outlines how Uisce Éireann (formerly Irish Water) will move towards a safe, secure, reliable and sustainable public water supply over a 25-year timeframe. It is a 25-year strategy to ensure a safe, sustainable, secure and reliable drinking water supply for everyone. Enabling Uisce Éireann to transform Ireland's water supplies at a national level, the plan will look for resilient solutions across all of its water supplies in terms of reducing leakage (lose less), promoting water conservation (use less) and developing resilient supplies (supply smarter). The NWRP sets out how the supply and demand for drinking water over the short, medium and long term will be balanced. Attention in the plan is given to sustainable water sources that do not impact on the environment and are resilient to climate change. In order to manage the delivery of Phase 2 of the NWRP, the public water supply has been divided into the four Regional Areas. The methodology in this Framework Plan is to be applied to the four Regional Areas of Water Supplies. Regional Water Resource Plans (RWRPs) will be developed for each of these four areas. Irish Water will establish clear metrics in conjunction with the relevant regulators to monitor progress in delivering a more sustainable and robust supply system.
