Kingdom of Thailand National Action Programme for Combating Desertification (2004–2008).

This Kingdom of Thailand National Action Programme for Combating Desertification (2004–2008) is developed by Thailand’s Land Development Department under the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives in response to obligations under the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD). The Programme aims to address land degradation and desertification by conserving and rehabilitating land resources to support sustainable food production, improve soil fertility, and strengthen resilience to drought and environmental degradation. The Programme identifies major causes of desertification, including soil erosion, forest loss, unsuitable land use, and problem soils affecting agricultural land. It establishes two strategic areas: development of land and water resource infrastructure and improving farmers’ access to land development services. Measures include land rehabilitation, soil and water conservation, agricultural land-use zoning, water resource development, soil information systems, biotechnology research, farmer training, and establishment of “Volunteer Soil Doctors” and local learning centres. In addition, the Programme establishes implementation indicators, budget allocation, and institutional responsibilities.
