U.T. Chandigarh Action Plan on Climate Change.

The Chandigarh Climate Change Action Plan (CAPCC) provides a framework for addressing climate change in the Union Territory of Chandigarh by adapting the objectives of India's National Action Plan on Climate Change (NAPCC) to the city's urban context. The Plan assesses vulnerabilities and baseline conditions across sectors including water, energy, forests and green spaces, agriculture, transport, waste management, and public health. It establishes five thematic missions: Green India, Solar and Energy, Water, Sustainable Habitat, and Strategic Knowledge, combining adaptation and mitigation measures to enhance resilience and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Key actions include urban afforestation and tree plantation programmes, renewable energy development, energy-efficiency measures, integrated water resource management, wastewater reuse, rainwater harvesting, sustainable urban drainage systems, and environmentally sustainable transport initiatives. The Plan also promotes improved solid waste management, green buildings, non-motorized transport, and climate-responsive urban planning. Institutional arrangements include a Climate Change Advisory Committee and a Knowledge Management Secretariat to coordinate implementation among government agencies, local authorities, academic institutions, civil society organizations, and community stakeholders. Monitoring, capacity building, public awareness, and periodic review mechanisms are incorporated to support implementation, while funding estimates and phased investment requirements are identified.
