This Decree composed of 12 articles, rules on the National Programme on Biological Diversity (PRONABIO) and on the National Commission on Biodiversity. PRONABIO is a programme aimed at: orienting the elaboration and the implementation of the National Policy ion Biodiversity, promote the implementation of the commitments undertaken by Brazil with regards to the Convention on Biological Diversity, defining the actions implementing the principles and guidelines of the National Policy on Biodiversity within the National System of Environment (SISNAMA). The Decree indicates the thematic components and biome sets through which PRONABIO shall be implemented at the national level. Finally, the Decree regulates the composition and functions of the National Commission on Biodiversity, the body in charge for the coordination of PRONABIO initiatives. The Commission shall act under the direction of the Biodiversity and Forestry Secretary of the Ministry of the Environment.
