The purpose of the present Law is to protect the life and well-being of animals. Whoever keeps animals has to ensure their constant welfare. It is unlawful to inflict unjustified sufferings or damage to animals or to put them in a state of anxiety, as well as to kill animals without reason. The text consists of 29 articles divided into 7 Parts as follows: General provisions (1); Cruelty to animals (2); Slaughtering and killing of livestock, use of animals for contests (3); Animal keeping (4); Special measures for animal keeping (5); Authorities, participation of federal authorities, access to premises, duty to give information (6); Penalties, transitional and final provisions (7).
