This Act provides rules for the geographical denomination of wine, for the labelling of wine with a geographical denomination and for the trade in such wine. “Geographical indication”, for wine, means: (a) a word or expression used in the description and presentation of the wine to show the country, region or locality where the wine originated; or (b) a word or expression used in the description and presentation of the wine to suggest that the wine has a particular quality, reputation or characteristic because it originated in the country, region or locality indicated by the word or expression. The Act provides rules relative to the description and presentation of wines and prohibits the sale, importation or exportation of wines with a false description and presentation (as defined).
