The present Law enforces the Federal Environment Act of 7 October 1983. The Environment Office is the competent authority in the Canton. Furthermore, the Cantonal Council shall inform the public of issues related to the environment, whereas local townships shall do the same in regard of their jurisdiction. The text deals, inter alia, with air pollution, water pollution, protection against noise, hazardous substances, waste prevention and waste disposal.
